Shadow Realms, New Action RPG Announced by BioWare

Over the last few weeks, BioWare have been leading up to some kind of new reveal with short teasers and other promotional material, and this week, the development studio has finally revealed all at Gamescom 2014.

BioWare has announced a brand new IP by the name of Shadow Realms at EA’s Gamescom briefing, along with some details on the game. Shadow Realms has been named as an action RPG title that will create some interesting four vs one scenarios, perhaps in a similar fashion to the upcoming Fable Legends by Lionhead Studios.

In fact, the EA briefing mentioned a few gameplay elements about Shadow Realms and it sounded very much like Fable Legends in concept alone; “Players will have the choice to play either as – or against – The Shadowlord, building experience and progression whether they have chosen good or evil.

Shadow Realms has also been said to be quite story-driven, and the main story line will be played out over a number of months, similarly to the Spartan Ops missions from Halo 4. “The over-arching narrative will be released episodically, playing out over time like a great TV series, providing players the ability to experience story-driven adventures as a community.

“In Shadow Realms, Modern Heroes on Earth are being awakened and recruited, because of magical powers they never knew they had, to fight in a new and dangerous war against the Shadow Legions of Embra. The Shadow Legions, who have been battling on Embra for years against the members of the Radiant Empires, have gained new strength with the coming of a powerful, unknown force that we call the Shadowlords. And, they have just figured out how to leave Embra and invade Earth.”

Shadow Realms has been confirmed to be a PC exclusive title, and it’s release date has been scheduled for 2015.
