Overwatch is the upcoming highly anticipated shooter game from World of Warcraft developer Blizzard. The game is played in teams of six where two teams fight for victory by completing the objective of the gamemode; there are over 20 available heroes for the players to control and each one is unique with their own abilities and weapons.
This is one of the most anticipated games of the year with thousands of players signing up for the closed beta which is already underway. It would seem that someone has found some advertisements for the game which revealed it’s official release date and even the starting date of the open beta for Overwatch.
The dates were published on IGN’s desktop and mobile websites; as this news has not yet been confirmed by Blizzard, this reveal could be a technical or human error. Until Blizzard comments on these dates, we cannot be certain this is completely true as the dates may still be moved.
According to the leak, the open beta for Overwatch will begin on May 3rd and will only be accessible to those who pre-order the game; pre-ordering the game after April 29th however will not provide access to the open beta so players will need to pre-order before that date. Overwatch was advertised with an official release date of May 24th.
Previously, Blizzard has announced that Overwatch will be released on or before June 21st and a Spring release also seemed likely according the director of the game, Jeff Kaplan. A May release date lines up with all previous release date news for Overwatch which makes these dates seem much more likely.
Blizzard has yet to comment on the potential release date leak, fans should be seeing a confirmation or rejection of the dates some time this week hopefully.
Overwatch will be released simultaneously on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 late this Spring or early Summer.
